The containerized, modular wing sail systems offered by Advanced Wing Systems (AWS) allow large wings to be fitted with minimal deck footprint. They are protected from dust and debris during port operations and provide minimal interference with visibility. They are fully autonomous, requiring minimal crew input.
Advanced Wing Systems (AWS) is one of the partners of the RETROFIT55 consortium and the wing sail technology is one of many technologies that has been the focus area of this project. In this video, deployment and stowage of such a wing sail has been demonstrated with the help of a scale model.
