ABSTRACT

This paper presents the challenges of developing and optimizing a second-generation Passive Air Lubrication System (PALS). After presenting the general working principle of this system, the paper focuses on the geometry optimization of the system itself and the arrangement in the vessel. The challenges and limitations of the associated CFD computations will be discussed. Experimental test results under laboratory conditions and validation of the system’s design will be presented qualitatively. An exemplary arrangement for a PALS will be shown.
